TikTok Inspiration Videos

Inspiration videos never played. You clicked the play button and nothing happened, because what we had stored was not a video at all. We had saved each video's TikTok page under an .mp4 name. We now fetch the real file for every video in the feed, and we check that what we are about to store is actually a video before we store it.

The cards are rebuilt around that. They are 9:16 like the original instead of being squeezed into the shape of an ad, and a video only loads when you hover over its card, so opening the feed no longer pulls down thirty videos at once. Favorites is now called Saved, the way it reads everywhere else in the app.

Clicking a card opens a detail view. The video plays on the left. On the right you get the author with a link to their profile, the caption and its hashtags, the view and engagement counts, the publish date, the duration and the sound it uses. Arrow keys move you through the grid without closing it. Whichever video you have open is in the address bar, so you can copy the link and send someone the exact video you were looking at.
